Fuel cost calculator

Estimate trip fuel and cost with explicit efficiency and volume units.

Calculation stays in this browser, without requests carrying your entries or automatic storage. These small, bounded calculations run synchronously; there is no background job to cancel.

Choose a currency label and 0–3 decimal places explicitly. These are your accounting settings, not an automatic currency-rule lookup or currency conversion. Amounts and offer prices must fit this precision; energy tariffs and fuel rates may have up to 6 decimals.

Use nonnegative decimal digits with a dot or Arabic decimal separator. Arabic and Persian digits are accepted. No spaces, signs, grouping, exponent notation or line breaks. At most 12 whole digits and 6 fractional digits; values must not exceed 999999999999.

Distance uses km or international miles. US liquid gallon = 3.785411784 L; Imperial gallon = 4.54609 L. mpg and price gallons are selected independently. Estimate fuel at constant efficiency; only total cost is rounded, with half a minor unit rounded upward.

How to use

Enter trip distance in kilometers or international miles. Choose L/100 km, km/L, US mpg or Imperial mpg. Enter a price per liter or either gallon, then calculate with your chosen currency and precision.

Try an example

100 km at 8 L/100 km requires 8 L; at 1.50 per L the cost is 12.00. A 20 mi trip at 20 US mpg consumes one US liquid gallon.

Support & limits

The international mile equals 1.609344 km. A US liquid gallon equals 3.785411784 L; an Imperial gallon equals 4.54609 L. The fuel-price unit is independent of the mpg unit. Efficiency must be positive and at most 1000000; price ranges from 0–1000000; both accept up to 6 decimals. No live prices, maps or assumed return trip: enter the full intended distance. Total cost is rounded once, halfway upward to the next minor unit; quantities show 6 decimals with the exact liter fraction in the report.

Common questions

Why do US and Imperial mpg produce different results?

The gallon volumes differ. The same numerical miles-per-gallon value represents different efficiencies in the two systems; choose the unit used in your vehicle’s data.
