Break-even calculator

Calculate exact fractional break-even and the first whole-unit volume without loss for one product, with explicit zero and negative margin outcomes.

Fixed nominal educational models, calculated locally. No live rates, recommendations, fees, taxes or legal APR calculation. Nothing is saved automatically.

The currency is a label only. Choose 0–3 decimal places; amounts with more places are rejected, including extra trailing zeros. Amounts: 0–1000000000000. No currency conversion.

Use nonnegative decimal numbers without spaces, grouping or exponents. Arabic and Persian digits and ٫ are supported. Each field accepts at most 32 UTF-16 units; line breaks are rejected.

One product, one common period: margin = unit price − variable unit cost. A positive margin gives exact fractional break-even and the first whole-unit volume without loss. Zero or negative margins have separate outcomes.

Annual rate 0–100%, at most 6 decimal places. Numeric results ≤10^18; at most 600 periods, 65536-bit arithmetic and a 5-second worker deadline. Combined TXT/CSV output ≤256 KiB. These are work limits, not a total browser-memory guarantee.

How to use

Choose a currency label and precision without currency conversion. Enter fixed period costs F, unit price P and variable unit cost V. Calculate margin P−V, then read the exact fraction, whole-unit threshold and its profit when the margin is positive. Copy TXT or download the complete report and CSV table.

Try an example

F=100, P=7 and V=4 give margin3, exact break-even100/3 units and a first whole-unit volume of34 with profit2.00 at two decimals.

Support & limits

Price must be positive and costs nonnegative. All inputs refer to one common period and one product with fixed assumptions. For positive margin, break-even is F/(P−V), followed by ceiling to whole units; profit=(P−V)×units−F. No automatic fees, taxes, seasonality or discounts. This is not a sales forecast or pricing recommendation.

Common questions

What does a zero or negative margin mean?

Positive F with a nonpositive margin has no nonnegative break-even volume. If F and margin are both zero, every volume breaks even without positive profit. If F is zero and margin negative, only zero volume breaks even and every positive volume loses money. Zero F with positive margin breaks even at zero and earns profit afterward.
