Study and break timer

Set a bounded work-and-break plan, start, pause and resume its remaining time, with progress calculated from the device clock.

Time is calculated from the device clock, not display ticks. Returning recalculates elapsed time, including skipped phases. Changing the device clock affects the result. Background operation or alerts are not guaranteed; there is no audio or autosave.

Defaults: 25 minutes of work, 5 minutes of rest and 4 cycles. Choose the unit explicitly; each phase is one second to one day, up to 20 cycles and a 7-day plan. No rest follows the final work phase.

Timer settings

Fields allow up to 32 UTF-16 units without truncation. Numbers are positive integers; no exponents, spaces or line breaks. Arabic digits are accepted. Changing a unit does not correct an oversized field.

Session controls

How to use

Choose the phase unit, work/rest durations and cycle count, then start. Settings stay locked while a session exists. Pause freezes the remaining time; resume counts it from the current device time. Stop clears progress but keeps settings; Reset restores defaults after confirmation. Explicitly copy a JSON snapshot or download pomodoro-timer.json for a record of the state when clicked.

Try an example

In seconds, work 2, rest 1 and 3 cycles produce work–rest–work–rest–work lasting 8 seconds. After 6.5 seconds, the third work phase has 1.5 seconds remaining and two work phases have completed. The default 25/5/4 settings produce a 115-minute plan.

Support & limits

Display callbacks every 250 ms redraw the interface; they are not the time source. Device-clock timestamps determine elapsed time, so returning to the tab accounts for skipped phases without replaying missed ticks. Changing the device clock affects the result. The display can be delayed while the browser is suspended; background operation or alerts are not guaranteed. There is no audio, notification, service worker or autosave. Remaining seconds round upward, and hours can exceed 24. A JSON snapshot cannot resume a session; the clipboard may normalize line endings.

Common questions

Does a final break continue after all cycles?

No. The plan ends after the last work phase. A valid rest duration is required even for one cycle, but no break is appended. Returning after the plan end shows completion; this does not prove the browser kept running while suspended.
