Image palette extractor

Extract common colors, HEX values and sample shares; download the palette and its data.

Up to 10 MiB per image; 30 MiB and 24 megapixels per batch. Work surfaces: 4 megapixels. Job deadline: 15 seconds. Outputs: 24 MiB. Processing stays in your browser. Without OffscreenCanvas, native drawing can briefly delay the interface. After cancellation, retry once pending native decoding or encoding finishes.

Uniform sampling, up to 65,536 pixels; if none are visible, scan the full image up to 4 million pixels. Alpha-weighted four-bit RGB bins ignore fully transparent pixels. Approximate shares refer to all evaluated visible colors, not just the displayed palette.

Still JPEG, PNG or WebP. Select files in order; each selection replaces the current list.

How to use

Select an image and color count, then process. Copy HEX values or download the palette PNG and data JSON.

Try an example

An image with equal red and blue halves gives two colors, each with about half the visible sample weight.

Support & limits

Up to 65,536 regularly spaced source pixels are sampled. Only when every sample is transparent, a full scan runs within the 4-million-pixel bound. Four-bit-per-channel RGB bins use alpha-weighted averages and omit fully transparent pixels. Approximate shares refer to all evaluated visible pixels, so selected colors may not sum to 100%. This is a technical estimate, not design advice.

Common questions

Why are fewer colors returned?

Only existing color bins are returned when samples contain fewer bins. A fully transparent image cannot produce a palette.
