Text difference checker

Compare original and modified text line by line, showing insertions and deletions in a bounded local worker.

Literal line comparison: up to 40,000 units and 600 lines per side, with a 5-second deadline. CR/CRLF become LF; + means added, − removed, and ⟦EOF⟧ a line without a final newline.

How to use

Paste the original and modified text and compare. Lines beginning with + are inserted, − deleted, and a space unchanged. Cancel the job or clear the texts when finished.

Try an example

Comparing lines A then B against A then C shows unchanged A, deleted B and inserted C.

Support & limits

The tool uses a longest common subsequence of lines (LCS), preferring deletion when paths tie. CR and CRLF normalize to LF before comparison. ⟦EOF⟧ marks a line without a final newline; input fields remain unchanged. The worker terminates on cancellation, timeout or completion.

Common questions

Why is a complete line shown instead of one highlighted word?

This is literal line comparison: a change within a line deletes the old line and inserts the new one. Whitespace and letter case are significant; the result does not measure semantic similarity.
